There are numerous reasons why franchisee recruitment and processing is so difficult to do - here are the most important ones:
- Chancers wasting your time - Most franchisors do not have the time to sift through hundreds of applications to select the right candidates.
- Poor candidate profiling process - Many franchisors do not have a scientific system of selection, so go on gut-feel.
- Poor franchise fit - A mismatch between the franchisor and franchisee
- Applicants may not be fully committed to your brand and may also be exploring multiple franchise offerings
- Not knowing which advertising platforms to use, taking into account the number and quality of leads generated in relation to cost.
- Not matching a viable opportunity or location to a suitable prospective candidate. - causing landlord problems down the track.
- Franchisee expectation is not fully met, leading to their own frustration in the process of finding a franchise.
- Not collecting the right information - eg: credit records, candidate lifestyle, nature of collateral, source and availability of own cash, police & tax clearances, etc.
- Entrepreneurial aptitude assessments not done - Are your candidates actually inclined towards business?
- Applicants are not screened - for the necessary skills / training / experience.
- Selecting the wrong candidate - Some people bluff or make a nuisance of themselves, until taken on.
- Should a funding application be rejected, the time, energy, commitment and patience invested could cause a reputation damage to the brand.
- Delayed funding approvals - mainly because of the franchisee's bad credit record, or they have submitted incomplete documents.
- Applicant’s balance sheet says that getting funding will not be a problem, yet it is incorrect.
All these - and more - are common symptoms of an inadequate franchisee recruitment and an often rushed induction process.
